hi all,
I'm picking up a new computer soon, and would like to stick an antivirus on it. I've got mcafi on this laptop, but the licence will not let me transfer it. I know that there are a few very good antivirus solutions which are free, which would you recommend?
i'd suggest Microsoft Security Essentials all the way. light on resourses and quite reliable.

That is the anti virous program that I am using and really like it.
I am currently trying out avast again. I left microsoft security assintuals because it did not tell me I have a virous but I did bla.
Microsoft security is what we use here and have never had a problem
it didn't tell you had a virus. explain please as it's stopped a few here, and it always, and i mean always told me i had them. if not coming right out and saying it the system tray icon showed at risk.
I was also considering AVG. I've generally heard good things about it.

i wouldn't go with AVG anymore, it's getting very heavy on using system resourses and doesn't work as well as it once did
I use microsoft security and it works well.
I use avast and have had no issues.
It has also done very very well in benchmark scores and melware protection.
the problem with AVG is that in the past, AVG was very very good or at least, the free version was very good. the problem that grisoft were having were that more an d more people started using the free AVG and not buying the paid one. As a result, they had reduced the features from the free and bulcked up the paid version to attract more customers.
I like Microsoft myself. I used to use AVG also, but actually found the Microsoft one works better with Jaws.
i was downloading some stuff! "I wont go into what stuff", scanned the files it told me the files were "free of virous infections." Lets say that was far from the trueth, I had to use super anti spiware and a few other tools to get my system clean. Lets just say MSE is no longer on my system. However, I will say odd but true it works well for my wife and her computer. She just checks her email, watches netflix and goes on the playroom to play card games.
All you have to do is use the Jaws cursor key and arrow up or down.
I have no desire to use AVG anymore.
Don't know that much about Avast to comment.
Micro Soft E S is my choice.
keep in mind, MSE is not considered a full anti-virus. it's called an anti malware tool. anti malware tools it's best to have 2 or 3 in case one misses something because the other will most likely get it. MSE and super anti-spyware, perfect mix it's what i use.
